Ready to sing again?

We know it’s been a particularly challenging period for singers, with many of us unable to make music for nearly a year and a half. That’s why we’re so delighted to announce that Coro is now accepting audition requests for our Autumn/Winter 2021 terms — and we’d love to see you there!

What is Coro?

Coro is a London-based chamber choir for experienced singers dedicated to performing a broad range of choral music to the highest standard. We perform four concerts per year, alongside some smaller gigs and opportunities, with rehearsals taking place on Monday evenings in the Centre of London. We also pride ourselves on our socials, so if you’re looking to make some new friends and have some fun while you’re at it, look no further!

Who can audition?

Currently we have a select number of vacancies across the choir, but in particular, we’d love to hear from Tenor 1 and Bass 2 singers — you can find out more about joining us here. Then, to enquire about arranging an audition, simply email us at info@corolondon.com and we’ll be in touch shortly.

Auditions begin on Monday, 4 October, so don’t delay! We hope to hear from you soon.

Spend this Christmas with Coro

When we gave our last public performance, at the end of 2019, who could have known what was in store for 2020? After what has been a challenging year for us all, we our delighted to present a short concert which we hope will provide you with some festive cheer this Christmas.

How to watch the concert

Simply book an e-ticket at £5 per household to watch Christmas with Coro. After purchasing a ticket, you will be emailed a link and password to access a password-protected page on our website, where you can watch the concert on Saturday 19 December, 3pm. The concert will then be available to watch on demand at your leisure throughout the festive season.

In the spirit of Christmas generosity, please don’t share the password to this page, but we’d love it if you shared this link with friends, family and neighbours so that each household may purchase their own e-ticket and help support our choir.

A humble request…

This year, the pandemic has had a huge impact on music; for a while totally silencing the performing artists and groups we love, and whom we are eager to hear live once again.

Organisations like Coro depend hugely on the support of our audiences to survive – and never more so than now. As our concerts have been paused, so has a large portion of our income, yet our operating costs still continue and we have dug deep in our pockets this year to present this concert for you.

We have set our ticket price at a much-reduced rate so that as many of you as possible – wherever you are – may enjoy our festive offering. Nonetheless, if you or your household find yourselves able to give a little more on top of your e-ticket purchase, we would be truly grateful.

Anything you can donate – large or small – will go a long way in helping Coro to continue and to bring first-rate choral music to communities across London.

Thank you for your support. From all of us at Coro, we wish you and yours a very Merry Christmas with hopes for a brighter New Year.

Coro celebrates 20 years with Bach’s Mass in B Minor

Coro is delighted to confirm details of its special 20th-anniversary concert, Bach’s immortal Mass in B Minor, to be presented at 6:30pm on Saturday, 21 March 2020 in the stunning setting of the St Pancras New Church in London.

Completed in 1749, just a year before Bach’s death, the Mass in B Minor represents the work of more than two decades of his life and is widely regarded as one of the supreme achievements of both the classical and choral music worlds.

In the coming weeks, stay tuned as we reveal our special guest soloists for the performance. Sign up to our mailing list for news and updates, and be sure to follow us on Instagram (@coro_london) to get sneak peeks into our rehearsals.

Coro celebrates 20th anniversary season

When a small group of dedicated singers gathered together one evening in September 2000 to form the chamber choir now known as Coro, little did they know that it was the beginning of something truly special—not just a creative outlet for dozens of London’s most experienced amateur musicians, but an outlet for lifelong friendships and fun.

Last month, we were delighted to kick off our 20th anniversary season on Clapham Common, headlining the 30th annual Colourscape Festival. Taking over the dazzling Colourscape catacombs, audience members and singers alike were moved by the combination of a visually rich environment with ethereal choral and instrumental music, an original commission for the festival by composer David Stevens.

Last weekend, we were off and away for an intensive weekend away at the gorgeous Tone Dale House in Somerset, preparing to mount Brahms’ Ein Deutsches Requiem in partnership with our friends at the Beckenham Chorale. Performed with full orchestral accompaniment, tickets are now on sale for this concert, taking place 30 November at St George’s Church in Beckenham.

Earlier in November, Coro is proud to announce that we will be joining Sarah Brightman for an already sold-out concert at the Royal Albert Hall, as she returns to perform in London for the first time in 15 years. Perhaps most well-known for originating the role of Christine Daae in Andrew Lloyd Weber’s classic The Phantom of the Opera, both in the West End and on Broadway, Sarah Brightman is one of the world’s leading classical and cross-over vocalists, and we are honoured to welcome her back to London at one of the city’s most iconic music venues. Learn more on the Royal Albert Hall’s website.

As usual, Coro will be bringing Christmas carols and festive favourites to a number of public and private events throughout the holiday season. We’re delighted to offer our services for corporate events as well as public and private functions—if we can help make your Christmas a merrier one, please contact us at bookings@corolondon.com so that we can discuss your requirements.

We round off the first half of our 20th anniversary season with our annual Christmas concert, held this year on Saturday, 14 December at London’s beautiful St Clement Danes RAF Church in the Strand. This year, we are delighted to be joined by guest reader and British television legend, Nerys Hughes, star of the BBC’s Liver Birds and The District Nurse. For many of our regular audience members, Coro’s Christmas concert has become a staple of the season, and we invite you to join us as we present festive favourites, old and new. Tickets are now on sale and are selling fast, so get yours today!

Finally, we’d like to offer our thanks to our audience, with particular thanks to the friends, family and alumni who have supported our singers these past 20 years. We are honoured to make music for you, and we hope to welcome you at our performances for many years to come.

Please stay tuned for further announcements about our 2019/20 season—particularly, our special 20th-anniversary concert on 21 March!
